The Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (Parker et al., 1995) measures both reading comprehension and numeracy and is designed to assess adult literacy in the health care setting. It was developed using actual hospital related materials such as prescription bottle labels and appointment slips. Both long and short versions are available.
