The Timeline Followback (Sobell & Sobell, 1992) is a widely used research and clinical assessment tool to measure substance use. Components include TLFB Alcohol and TLFB Cigarette, Marijuana, and Other Drug use. A calendar technique is used to help individuals retrospectively estimate their substance use.
Both the English and Spanish versions, as well as translations in other languages, are available at (http://www.nova.edu/gsc/forms/timeline-followback-forms.html). The MAPI Institute completed serval linguistic validations of the TLFB and gave permission for those to be included on the website. Additionally, the author grants permission for other investigators to translate the TLFB using a certified translation method but asks that those translations be submitted so they can be posted on the website for other investigators to use for free.
