Perceived Support Network Inventory (PSNI)

The Perceived Support Network Inventory (Oritt et al., 1985) is a self-report measure of perceived social support. Part I of the inventory, which measures perceived network size, asks respondents to list the initials of people they would go to for support or help during stressful times and to check a column that describes their relationship to each person identified. The second part of the inventory measures initiation of support-seeking behaviors, perceived availability of support, satisfaction with support, perceived multidimensionality, perceived support reciprocity and perceived network conflict for each person listed in Part I.

Translation Information:

Part I of the PSNI was translated to Spanish by the SETA-FAMILY study (University of Miami Protocol #20020705) team, Principal Investigator, Dr. Victoria Mitrani.  The translation process consisted of 3 steps:  translation, back translation, and comparison/reconciliation by a third party in consultation with other native speakers as needed.

The second part of the inventory was not used or translated by the SETA-Family study.  Only the English version appears on this site.
