Familism Scale

The Familism (Sabogal et al., 1987) scale is a 15 item measure of familism under three constructs: familial obligations, support from the family, and family as referents; using a 5-point Likert scale (1= Very Much in Disagreement, 5 = Very Much in Agreement).

Translation Information:

The items in this measure were developed in either Spanish or English and were translated into the other language through the double-translation procedure with the help of two translators.  The versions were decentered and pretested in English and Spanish. To eliminate parochial wording, the Spanish version was reviewed by Spanish-speakers from different nationalities (Sabogal et al., 1987).
