Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D)

The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (Radloff, 1977) is a 20-item self-report measure of depressive symptoms that uses a 5-point Likert scale (0 = rarely or none of the time (less than one day out of the week), 4 = almost all of the time, (5 to 7 days).

Translation Information:

The Spanish translation of the CES-D Scale that appears on this site is the version by Roberts (Roberts, et al, 1989). The translation process consisted of three steps: translation, back translation, and comparison/reconciliation.
