Brief Symptom Inventory (BSI)

The Brief Symptom Inventory (Derogatis & Melisaratos, 1983) is a 53-item measure used to identify self-reported clinically relevant psychological symptoms in adolescents and adults. The BSI covers nine symptom dimensions: Somatization, Obsession-Compulsion, Interpersonal Sensitivity, Depression, Anxiety, Hostility, Phobic anxiety, Paranoid ideation and Psychoticism; and three global indices of distress: Global Severity Index, Positive Symptom Distress Index, and Positive Symptom Total.

There is also a shortened form of the BSI which is an 18-item measure (Derogatis, 2001).
