Attitude Towards Women Scale (AWS)

The Attitudes Toward Women Scale (AWS) is a measure of attitudes toward women. There is a 55-item version (Spence, Helmreich, 1972), a 25-item version (Spence, Helmreich, and Stapp, 1973) and a 15-item version (Spence and Helmreich, 1978). The 15-item scale, which is highly correlated with the original version in both males and females has been used by most investigators. (Spence & Helmreich, 1978).

Translation Information:

The Attitudes Toward Women Scale-15 was translated to Spanish by the Cultural Linkages Between Substance Abuse, Intimate Partner Violence and Risky Sexual Behaviors Among Hispanic Women Study (University of Miami Protocol #20070318) team, Principal Investigator Dr. Rosa Gonzalez-Guarda.  The translation process consisted of 3 steps:  translation, back translation, and comparison/reconciliation by a third party in consultation with other native speakers as needed.

The English and Spanish versions of the measure that appear on this site are the 15 item versions.
